Lasting Powers of Attorney - Expert Help to Protect Your Future

Peace of mind, for what lies ahead

A Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) allows you to appoint someone you trust to make decisions for you if you lose mental capacity.  Many people only think about LPAs in later life, but it is wise to have one in place early - especially if you are self employed or run a business.

I offer specialist advice and drafting of both types of LPA:

  • Property and Financial Affairs LPA
  • Health and Welfare LPA

I can also help with:

  • Acting as a certificate provider (to confirm mental capacity)
  • Revoking existing LPAs
  • Advice for Attorneys and Donors
  • Registering Enduring Powers of Attorney (if signed before October 2007)

I provide a straightforward, fixed-fee service with home appointments available across Pocklington, York and the surrounding areas - including evenings and weekends.

As an experienced solicitor, I will ensure your LPAs are drafted correctly, registered properly and tailored to your needs.

Property and Financial Affairs LPAs: Managing Your Assets, Protecting Your Future

Empower a Trusted Individual to Handle Your Financial Matters

A Property and Financial Affairs Lasting Power of Attorney empowers a chosen attorney to make decisions about your money, property, and investments. This vital legal document ensures your financial affairs are managed effectively, even if you lose mental capacity.

From paying bills and managing bank accounts to selling property and investing funds, my expert guidance ensures your LPA is drafted precisely to your wishes, providing peace of mind that your financial well-being is secure, and your assets are protected for your benefit and your loved ones.

Health and Welfare LPAs: Ensuring Your Care, Respecting Your Choices

Your Medical Decisions, Your Trusted Voice

A Health and Welfare Lasting Power of Attorney allows you to appoint an attorney to make decisions about your daily care, medical treatment, and living arrangements if you can no longer do so yourself. This includes decisions about where you live, the medical care you receive, and even life-sustaining treatment.

I can help you create a clear and legally robust LPA that reflects your personal values and preferences, ensuring your wishes are respected and your health and welfare are managed by someone you trust implicitly, even in the most challenging circumstances.

Revoking an LPA: Updating Your Wishes, Maintaining Control

Change of Circumstances? Ensure Your LPA Reflects Your Current Intentions

Life changes, and so might your wishes regarding your Lasting Power of Attorney. Whether due to a change in family circumstances, a loss of trust in an attorney, or simply a desire to update your instructions, it's crucial to understand how to legally revoke an existing LPA.

I provide clear and precise advice on the process of revocation, ensuring your previous LPA is formally cancelled and any new arrangements you wish to make are correctly implemented, maintaining your control over who manages your affairs.

Registering Enduring Powers of Attorney (EPAs): Validating Your Historic Authority

Ensuring Your Existing EPA Remains Legally Enforceable

While Lasting Powers of Attorney replaced Enduring Powers of Attorney (EPAs) in October 2007, valid EPAs made before this date can still be used. However, an EPA must be registered with the Office of the Public Guardian once the donor begins to lose or has lost mental capacity.

I can provide expert assistance with the complex registration process for your existing EPA, ensuring all legal requirements are met and your authority to manage the donor's property and financial affairs is officially recognised and legally enforceable.
